Training
Every type of responder requires training to operate safely. HEET is no exception. Even though we are a volunteer group, we have high standards for our volunteers and require a certain amount of training. Why? We wouldn’t want just anyone entering our property during a high stress emergency environment, and neither would you. You would want someone with a cool head and proper training. All HEET members assigned to an emergency are required to keep up with their training to ensure that they are safe out in the field.
It takes more than just towing a trailer down the road to qualify someone to be a rescue team member.
Our trained members are the reason we have good working relationships with CAL FIRE/SLO County Fire, SLO Sheriff’s Office, CHP, and other law enforcement agencies.
We would never ask you to perform a task that we wouldn’t do ourselves, which is why you’ll see the HEET Board of Directors heavily represented at all training events. These events are great networking opportunities, and they allow us to get to know you and your capabilities. This will allow us to make confident, well-informed dispatching decisions and will allow you to develop camaraderie with your teammates.
